Have installed Windows 2000 SP3 on a Toughbook -when trying to update it to SP4 the install fails and machine then bootloops. The only thing of note is the OS was installed without CDROM support - so I386 directory was copied to hard drive externally then setup was run from the C: partition and as a result Windows is installed on partition D:
SP4 failed using express setup due to files reporting as corrupt, so on attempting the standalone installer it failed saying a particular file couldn't be found, and after rebooting the machine restarts after displaying the windows logo. I have run a repair install which has got the machine back in to windows

If you have changed the registry keys to point to the local source files on the C:\1386, then that wouldnt be an issue.
What files couldnt it find?
Been a while since really played in 2000, but there should be a log file/event in the event viewer, regarding teh fatal errors with SP4.....
Do a search for *.log, and see if you can find it for us.....
Upon trying the network install 129MB download - as soon as setup gets under way it reports "Setup cannot copy the file accwiz.exe" and is set to browse d:\df7089fea\i386. I have been to this location and verified the file is their (currently named accwiz.ex_) I've also tried renaming the file to .exe with no Joy, just in case.
