Question

Recommend a good MP3 site

Asked by: ey143

I'm looking for a good MP3 site, with clean banners and can download songs from the top40 charts in Europe.

None of this click here there and everywhere type sites that loads 100 other sites.  One clean easy to use site which dont have too many broken links.

that last one was kinda the same as the first one :)
Besides I didnt find the first one all that good.  Too many songs I havent even heard of OR that are not common in the European charts.  Seems to be more American R&B, rap, black music etc?

by: astaecPosted on 1999-04-22 at 15:09:09ID: 1664010

Sorry, you opted not to select the EUROPE element.  But then, I didn't pose any answers, merely posted comments, so nothing is lost.  Merely tried to be responsive.

Over and out.

mp3.lycos.com

(Yellow stars indicate speed/availability of download,
red star indicates ratio site - often better if you don't mind uploading first.)

No disrespect intended astec, but having looked at the site again under the European section, I am still not clearer as to who those people are in the charts.

I am no music critic, but I've never heard of any of them.  Where are the top20 charts, of everyday songs.  Are these some new bands trying to make a start in their music career.  I wish them all the best if they are, but err well....I like the current chart hits :)

ruperts, have you managed to download anything from that site you mention?

I've tried "Turn it up fire it up" by busta rhymes and ocne I click on the link it goes to another one listing all the songs by the artist.  The download does not start.  I've read the instructions, although I dont need to press the right mouse button to save, as I'm using IE 5.  Anyhow it didnt work when I did.

SOmeone please give me, a VERY easy and quick site with all the top 40 songs in the music charts that we have heard of.  SOngs that are on the radio, not some wannabies music stars.

My fav site. www.mp3wow.com has been taken over and so I am looking for a similar replacement.

Fair enough, becuase most of these sites are rather low in quality, you need to use a program such as Get Right. This program will download your file for you, and if you get cut off or disconnect it will carry on from where it left off.

I've only had one MP3 which has downloaded all at once, and at a fast rate!

The BEST mp3 site on the Web is you! It is much simplier to make your own mp3's, all the tools are available. Rippers, encoders and players are readily available on the Net. Besides with a quality ripper/encoder combination, you can make an mp3 in about 60 to 90 seconds. When it takes 4ever to download, if you can find a location with quality files and a good selection.
If you have any questions on how to make mp3's etc, please contact me. That is kind of my second hobby.  Besides the BETTER MP3 sites are all gone thanks to all the red tape concerning this form of entertainment. And the FTP sites are ususally very busy, you can never get access. So try making your own, and become a source for others. Good Luck!

ruperts,
I recommend you change ISPs.  I've been downloading mp3 files in their entirety for months now with no problems.  If you have a good connection you wont need software like Get Right in the first place.  I manage to achieve about 3.4k per second.
Anyway, that doesn't explain how how you download files from that site.  I couldnt get anything to download full stop, once I click a song, it goes to another list of songs.

verminator, the whole point of downloading mp3 is so that you dont need to go and get them in the first place!!
If I went and bought the originals, I wouldn't want to rip them anyway!  What do you recommend as the best ripper?  Goldwave or something is supposed to be good, but I couldnt get it to work with my Waitec CD-RW.   (Yamaha unbranded)

RE: mp3.lycos.com
>once I click on the link it goes to another one listing all the >songs by the artist.

Click on the song title, not the directory name.

And your right I should change ISP's, but it means changing my e-mail address.

by: ey143Posted on 1999-04-23 at 11:05:18ID: 1664020

Have you actually downloaded any songs from there?
I've tried yet again, and nothing.
For one, some of them dont have song titles, only directory.

Show me one song that you can download!
Every other search I try, it lists it, but then when I try and download it, it comes back with error.
Try california dreaming by the beach boys, I doubt you'll have any luck.

Not trying to be funny, but I am very surprised that not many people know very good links for mp3.
Let me try audio galaxy.

I still think the search on mp3.box.sk is pretty good.

I hate sites with ftp requirements.  Too much effort.  Anyway, tried it using CuteFTP and it does not allow me to download.  Same with all other CuteFTP requirement sites.  Is it ratio based or something?

Why should I have to upload songs on a 1:5 basis when I they are freely and more easily available on the web.
