Boot Disk Failure

WD Caviar 136AA 13gb on a Pentium III system w/AX6BC motherboard, Award BIOS 1998 PnP FAT32 one partition.  Has been working fine, but now I get a "Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk & Press Enter".  I can boot to a floppy, but can't access the hard drive.  If I turn the computer off and on enough times, the hard drive will eventually boot and then run normally.  Any suggestions?  FYI, I've run a virus scan with the latest .dat's - no virus found.

Sounds like the data or power cables came loose or went bad.  Have you tried another IDE data cable?  Is the drive spinning up even?

Good suggestion.  I'll stick a new cable in see if that does the trick.  Yes, the hard drive spins and works fine ONCE it finally boots.

boot teh system with a clean
windows boot-disk (same ver as u have)Transfer systemm files from that floppy( a:>\sys c: ).Remove flpppy,reboot system .This is a experience in my works

If your h.d.d have bad-sectors(B) in boot-sector,this drive is usefull for sectondary/slave use only (unlucky)

Thank you.  I have discovered that the hard drive is bad.  As you said - bad sectors in the MBR.  Western Digital had some problems with their Caviars during a one or two month period last year.  I think this may be one of them.
