Opening JPG's.

When I try to view a jpg file, it always locks up my computer. Doesn't matter whether it is opened using IE5 or Netscape4.7. It is only with large JPG files (half page 40KB files). They are files that I have taken off of my digital camera, or files that I downloaded off the internet (mostly of senic places from the national parks websites). The files that I get off the internet can be viewed fine from the server. If I open Windows Explorer, and click on the file to see the preview, my computer reads it fine, but if I double-click, the computer will slow down, and the toolbar buttons on the browser will grey out and eventually disappear. My mouse will move when this starts, but only in jerky motions, and then as the computer freezes, not at all. If I press ctrl alt delete, nothing pops up, and then I have to press ctrl alt delete again to get the computer to restart. It then seems to be running hot, and I have to shut it down (I have a screen that pops up right after it checks for the disk drives that tells me CPU temp, system temp, and fan speeds. I am on SE, and I was thinking that either Windows gets into some kind of loop when it tries to open the jpg's off the hard drive and overheats the CPU. Could that be the problem (I am not a big expert in this field, which is why I am asking you. Please help, because I am trying to make a slide presentation of different parks and landmarks. Thank you.
