YOu can do 2 things:
1.Try to repair the IE5.0
2.Reinstall it all over again.

1.Go to the "control panel" -> Add/Remove Programs , locate the Internet Explorer and click add/remove.

2.Connect to the internet and download the newest version. Right now this IE 5.5 , goto windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Good luck.

Don't dowload IE 5.5, it crashes more times then IE 5.0 .
Make sure your version is 5.01 and if not then dowload it again and re-install it.

Next time could you please hit the "Details" button and let us know exactly what the error message is?

It will narrow it down for us!

:)

Hopefully he is not dealing with a MSIMN error as this could be the sign of a virus.

I tried ronins suggestion to repair the IE5.0. I went to control panel, then add/remove programs, but could not locate the internet explorer to remove it.  I found the version 5.01, because asafb said not to download IE 5.5 because it crashes alot.  I downloaded 5.01, downloaded it.  No good. Same error message.  I got details for plansdowne.  It says "explorer caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown> at 0000.02fp7fg0.  Does this help?

I'm working with IE 5.5 and it crashes at least once a session - so I wouldn't recomend using it.

Are you sure the message is with explorer and not iexplore?

Just in case, here's a thought....

try removing with a tird party uninstaller like quarterdeck cleansweep
or uninstaller 98
and check and remove all entries referencing ie5 and restart.
since you installed th 5.0.1 on top of the existing ie install the error remained there.
usually ie istallations have to be done carefully
like you need to take a backup of your good working registry. cause it will over write quite a few files even shared files(dlls) of other browers.
so if it crashes you can always get back to the original state.
use SFC of windows 98 to check file integrity
also 'firstaid 98' the later versions if you got it and test applications it can do automatic or manual repairs
fixit will also do it will sugest some solutions.
you can check microsoft tech suppport although not sooo great with all those cryptic error message nos. ( they don't even have something like alist of all error nos. in one place)still you may get some idea.
you can manually edit the registry its very technical and risky if you don't know much about it .
You can use other better browsers like opera, netscape etc.
(or better still a crash free O/S like linux or BEOS :>})
finally you can reinstall windows but be sure to delete the existing registry files and their backups (Ie. the system.dat user.dat files and rb00*.cabs) and install from dos. if you have your profile keys and software keys exported from the registry earlier
you can get back your same windows settings that was there, else every thing will look new.
if you still want to know about the registry and manual configuration  you can mail me

How attached are you to Internet Explorer (any version) ?

Try Netscape Communicator 4.6 or 4.7 & therefore hopefully eliminate any residue files that may be corrupting your IE installations.

I can honestly say I've never had a crash using Netscape but I've seen hundreds with IE.

by: KsBlikPosted on 2000-05-30 at 11:44:09ID: 2864329

No crash with netscape? lol It should be called NetCrash as far as Windows is concerned. Both browsers do their fair share of upsetting us all!!!

My suggestion would be to install IE 5.5 and just see what happens... you have nothing to lose. If this doesn't work, use the repair/uninstall feature, which should take you back to IE 4.0, depending on how old your software package is.

Good Luck

this is not an issue with IE if it is saying "EXPLORER" caused the IPF, its an OS issue, its jsut something in the browser that is causeing the problem..perhaps you should look into that...IEXPLORER.EXE is Ie 5.0, EXPLORER.EXE is windows.

sorry not causeing, triggering the problem

completely remove the 5.0 browser, and start from scratch with the 5.5 version, or try to reload the 5.0 browser from a different source, you might have a corrupted file.
