Running win 98SE, once every ten minutes my computer freezes up for about 7 seconds. Ive scanned for viruses, and I dont see any flags under system devices. Ive also cut down on programs running in background....still freezing up consistantly. HELP!

The other thing that you could try is going to Start > Run > msconfig and look in the startup tab and start eliminating programs that start when you boot your computer to see what is doing it. Once you have isolated the offending program you can try to go into its options and disable whatever is doing this.

If indeed you are running Findfast which is installed by Office 97 then remove it like this url tell you:

If you don't get rid of the indexes the problem will still be there! Also try shutting down your anti-virus software to see if it helps! Have you run scandisk lately, should do it at least once a week. Also run hwinfo /ui from the start/run command and see if it identifies any device or driver problems they will be identified in red. Don't forget the space between the o and the /. Dave

Sound like microsoft fastfind. Goto your startup folder and delete fastfind.
