Unable to Browse Network

All,

I've just finished wasting approximately 130 EE points and two hours attempting to find a solution to the following problem. I have found numerous similar problems previously posted, but none of the proposed earlier solutions worked. Therefore...

I'm attempting to network two Win98SE boxes, A and B, using a crossover cable and using NetBEUI as the network protocol. On one of the machines (A), the network setup appears to have worked beautifully: When I boot up, the Logon to Microsoft Network box appears, and the Network Neighborhood shows this machine. It does not, however, show the other machine; nor does Find Computer reveal the second computer (B). On B, however, the setup is much less successful: I don't receive a logon prompt when I boot up (primary network logon is set to Microsoft Networks Client), and when I attempt to browse the network I receive an "Unable to browse network" message. I am able to open \\B from this computer, but can't see \\A.

Misc. possibly pertinent information:
--B's NIC has an indicator light. This light turns green as soon as I insert the cable in A's NIC--I assume this means that the cable, at least, is good.
--Neither computer reports any problems in Device Manager for either of the NICs.
--I've tried removing all network components from B, and reinstalling them all from CD.
--B connnects to the Net through DUN w/ no problems.
