virus attack

Hi all,

the daughter of friends of mine opened the attachement of an email sent to her and their computer got infected. Naturally, they did not have an antivirus installed.

Now every time the attempt to type something in Word 97 (and any other parts of Windows eg. search for file) they get "I like stinky underware" or something along those lines.

They asked for assistance from a computer tech who scanned the disk, installed an antivirus and still found nothing. He said that he hadn't come across that particular virus before. He suggested to move the file created in the D: directory to a temp directory (F:), and to reformat D:

He also stated that, because my friends cannot access the internet, the virus is in the second stage.

I have absolutely no idea what to do when a pc gets infected. Can anyone please assist?
