changing drive letters

I have an existing hard drive that has 2 partitions "c,d".  I added a new physical hard drive and now the partition that was "d" is now "e".  I can't get to any programs on this partition unless I remove the new drive and restart, causing the drive letter to switch back to "d".  How can I fix this?
