It played fine on his machine. When I got home I tried to view the web page on my machine and the sample played as a garbled selection of clicks and whistles. Yet if I downloaded the sample it would play in Winamp no problem. I also noticed that Windows Media Player 6.4 as installed on my machine would not play the sound file correctly. I therefore tried installing Windows Media Player 7.1 and although it would play the sound file, it didn't enable Internet Explorer or the still installed Media Player 6.4 to play it correctly.
I have added codecs till I am blue in the face, I can't get anything to correct the problem. My only thought is my friend has IE6 installed, I haven't been able to check this yet. Although I currently doubt it.
I have used Microsoft's Graphedit to view the decode path for the problimatical file and it produced the following:
test.mp3 ---> MPEG-1 Stream Splitter ---> InterVideo Audio Decoder ---> Default DirectSound Device
The obvious problem would seem to be "MPEG-1 Stream Splitter" should be something like "MPEG-2 Stream Splitter" but isn't MPEG-2 audio supposed to be backwards compatable with MPEG-1 (at least two of the channels anyway)
Has anyone got any ideas ?

Icidentaly if I use a MPEG-1 Layer 3 file then both Internet explorer and Media Player 6.4 can play the file correctly, it only seems as if MPEG-2 audio files give them a problem.
Best regards.
