The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Common Resource DLL error, Regional Settings (Int'l) problem

Asked by CindyMT in Windows 98 Operating System

Tags: common, link, resource

I was getting a lot of GPFs and invalid page and stack faults, and used system config utilities to
pinpoint the problem area to the international settings in win.ini. Now I have to disable this portion of my win.ini to be able to use MS access report function (otherwise it says I do not have a printer installed--there are about 6 installed), and to be able to use an Epson Stylus 660 printer.
When win.ini is partially disabled, I can print but still get the message
     "Cannot Link Common Resource DLL!"

When Int'l Settings are fully enabled, I get general protection faults (Setup, Sis32, Rundll, Explorer, Spool32, etc. with Kernel32.dll, MFc42.dll modules and particularly EPIJNL30.drv) trying to open a variety of programs, trying to print, trying to add a printer, trying to check printer properties, and trying to install a printer driver.

This does not happen with my LaserJet 3100, but I worked with a second-level technician at Epson and we've established it is not a printer/driver issue. During this troubleshooting process, windows still acted as if a driver were installed for the Epson even though it was entirely removed from the system. From this and the Common Resource DLL error, he thinks I may need to re-install windows.

I'm hoping someone else out there can offer something else.
