Check and see if the original CAB files are still on your hard disk.  They may still be there somewhere under the Windows folder structure or elsewhere.  Not guaranteed but some installers place them on the hard disk.  If so you can save the folder structure on to a CDROM and use that for reinstallation.  Also save your O/S number because you are going to need that again.

Or go and buy a copy somewhere.

>>>Or go and buy a copy somewhere.

That is probably overall the best thing to do.

Hi

There is a 3rd party utility called GHost.exe, So you can provide an image from your partition, then burn it on a CD ( Make the CD bootable ) and restore it on formated partition.

you should restore it on the same partition name ( for example C: )

If you make an image of the partition and then restore it onto a new partition, it will also restore any of the problems that you have with your current partition and os say a virus or other corrupted files. I to am going to recommend that you buy a new copy and do a clean install.
Also if this is a computer made by a major manufature like HP, Compaq, etc. you could aquire a restore disk from them.

What you could do is copy the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder to a cd.After formatting the pc boot from a start up disk with cd rom support. Then insert the cd you made and browse to the setup.exe in the cabs folder. This will start the install of windows 98 without the cd.You can also do an in place upgrade from within windows starting the setup from the cabs folder (that means installing windows right over top of itself without a format).Hope this helps ,good luck.
