Hi,
I have been seeing some strange behaviour with my computer which until now was quite happy creating massive AVI files as the final part of creating a movie ready for VCD conversion.
Using Ulead VisualStudio or Directors Cut 6.5 I got two similar messages half way through creating this final AVI.
In VisualStudio4.0, I got a message say that the computer is out of disk space at 2.1Gb every time. With Ulead Directors Cut I get the message but at 3.99Gb.
I recently installed an ATA133 Maxtor PCI expansion card, and currently have the drive (100Gb Western Digital) hooked up on it's Master IDE.
I also had the problem of video playback (with a soundcard present) would be jurky, as if the disk couldn't support more than 1.3Mbps. In the past I had 8Mpbs MPEG2 playing back no trouble. But once I installed hte ATA133 PCI card playback was troublesome. To remedy this particular problem I ended up reinstalling Windows as it seemed the Plug and Play had screwed up to the point where nearly all devices on the motherboard (including IDE controllers) would follow whatever interrupt the soundcard was assigned.
However, in what seems to be a vain effort I have tried removing all hardware, to one disk, and then back up to the current configuration. I've even replaced the Motherboard.
My only remaining problem is this strange file-size limit.
I have no antivirus software running to my knowledge, have installed lots of DX8.0 stuff for video drivers, and the latest IE6.0. I believe one of my video editors (VideoWaveIII) installed the second Windows Update for Win98.
I have the following hw configuration:
IDE1 Master - 20Gb IBM
IDE1 Slave - 20Gb IBM
IDE2 Master - CDROM
ATA133 IDE1 Master Maxtor 40Gb
ATA133 IDE1 Slave WDigital 100Gb
The current motherboard is a Gigabyte VIA chipset with an AMD 800Mhz processor. But the problem also appeared on my older ASUS VIA chipset motherboard.
I've tried creating the AVI file on any one of these disks, and configured Ulead's applciations to use temporary files on both IDE1 Master and ATT133 IDE1 Slave drives... to no avail.
I have reduced the recycle bin on some drives and disabled it on others. Nearly all drives except IDE1 Slave are 60% empty. Scandisk did report that free disk space was being misreported on all drives shortly after I'd installed all the software. Scandisk 'fixed this' problem, and now the disks appear to report the right amount of space, but this hasn't solved the problem with Ulead.
Any clues would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea why this has just started to happen either as it has been working all year.
Mike.
