The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

IE freezes Win 98 Se

Asked by shannon in Windows 98 Operating System

This is an AMD 1000 system that has given me a fit.
System is running win 98se, has 256mg mem, 80 gb drive,
cable modem, sound card, etc.
Problems atarted with a bad mem mod (128mb) which I removed.  Problems continued and ran disk diags and found multiple disk errors.  Installed new 80 gb disk.
So: to date have installed new memory, new disk, new video card, new network card and have formatted and installed claen copy of win 98se.

Problem:  System hangs (freezes) when running Internet Explorer on certain sites.

System runs fine as stand alone system.
System will acces Internet for mail and some surfing.
System freezes on some web sites, such as Ebay???

No apparent reason.  I have tried everything I can think of.

The only thing I find is that the sound card and the video card are sharing irq5. ????

It has std monitor, dr-rom & cd-rw drives, 256 mem,
creative sc aduigy sound card, ATI 3d rage Pro(air3),
printer, netgear eathearnet card (new), via tech board.

I used this system for one year and had no problems with IE.

system will freeze when logged onto the Internet with both IE, Netscape and Mozzilla.
I surfed for 30 minutes, but as soon as I went to Ebay, it froze in 3 screens.

I have upgraded IE and Downgraded IE.
I have a fire wall (zone alarm) and Norton suite 2002.
I have tunred them off...no change
Turned them on...same problem.
System will work all day long...but hangs/freezes on the Internet.

What can I do??????
