The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

Problems installing Windows 98 and 95

Hi
I have an older assembled computer with 200 mhz Pentium 1 and 64 mb ram.  I tried installing (clean installing that is) Windows XP on the computer (it had Win 98) without realizing that the computer just wasn't fast enough to handle the XP.  So then I tried to reinstall Windows 98 and did FDISK and took out the active partition that had been changed to NTFS, and made it to FAT32 [I'm not too familiar with these aspects, but I have heard that Windows 98 will not run on NTFS].  

I'm not sure I did enough with the fdisk...I then formatted that partition.  I then tried to install Windows 98 but it doesn't even get to the the copying stage, nor does it get to check the settings of the computer.  It just hangs right after it starts to prepare itself (it gets to 100% of preparation though).  I then tried installing windows 95 but that hangs in a similar part of the installation.  I've even tried copying both win95 and win98 o the hardrive and installing it from there but it hangs in exactly the same spots.  I've noticed that when it freezes, there is this black rectangle that "blocks" the middle of the screen--its about 1 inches high and 4 inches long.
