The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I move Windows from C:\Win98 to D:\Win98?

Asked by TheArch in Windows 98 Operating System

Tags: install

I have an 80GB HD with a 2GB FAT16 primary partition with C:\Win98 and a lot of DOS stuff; and an 8GB FAT32 extended partition with D:\Program Files, etc.  I use Startup Menu to "Boot into [my] previous version of DOS" (ver 6.22) or Win98.  I want to add another 30GB partition for WinXP, but first, my C: is getting very crowded and I need to move C:\Win98 to D:\Win98.  I no longer have most of the Win98 apps' installation CDs, though I do have the HW device drivers and M$ Win98 CDs.

I have tried copying all C:\Win98 to D:\Win98 and then reinstalling Win98 to D:\Win98 to make it bootable into the Win98 on D:, but the result was just an install as though it were completely new.  That is, I just got all the "new" configurations like the 640x480 desktop, minimal quick launch bar, animated menus, "web page" folders, etc., instead of all the customized changes I had made.  Many times earlier when I had to reinstall Win98 to C:\Win98, all original configuration was preserved, but not when I copy C:\Win98 to D:\Win98 and install to D:\Win98.  Obviously, if I had all the apps' installation CDs, I could just rebuild everything to D:\Win98 from scratch.  I do have a couple of extra HDs and Ghost if such are needed for this project.
