Look in Device Manager for any red or yellow symbols indicating a hardware problem. Or try replacing the video card.

This is not the blue screen of death, just an ordinary blank screen as if monitor was turned off. Any idea ? I don't even have a 98 CD anymore.
Thanks, Dave

asyscokid - how's he going to look in device manager when he's got no video? :)
dlyons - with the computer turned off and the replacement monitor - try hitting F8 just after you hear the initial Beep (or Beep-Beep depending on your system). See if you have video here - if you do not, it's a bad video card (is he using a surge protector?)
@ asyscokid - ;-)
dlyons - the monitor you replaced it with - a known good one? Also - since it didn't work - did you return it to the original location - still working?
If so, then it must be the video card/board - you have eliminated both Monitor and monitor cable here.
Only other thing would be bad power outlet?
My guess is that since the indicator light comes on, the montior should be fine.
Did you try and adjust the screen settings, such as brightness. (Probably the first thing you tried)
Is the connection tight?
Maybe try a diffirent video card. See if that works.
maybe try the monitor on another computer.

Obviously video-related. Is it an external (slot) video card? Try replacing it.
Do you see anything as the machine is booting up (through DOS)?
