The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Computer hangs frequently when on windows 98

Asked by hellomehta in Windows 98 Operating System

Tags: hangs, computer, 98, frequently, windows

Sir,

I have windows98 se, 2000 professional installed on my system. Most of the
time I work on windows 98. For last few days the computer has started hanging every now and then.
Every two minutes of work in windows 98, the computer hangs. I have scanned the entire
computer 3 times with Norton 2003 latest updated version but nothing is
detected. I also have one old dos version based antivirus which says
that "Boot or partition virus detected, if u created partition using
unix click ignore else click rebuild to rebuild partition table ...."
Then it says "Restart the computer with clean dos bootable disk and
run ... commands". What would u suggest to me? I have taken backup of
most of the necessary data on the system. Few days before I also installed
Linux Mandrake 8.2 on the system by using some of  the free space available on
the windows partition. But now I uninstalled Linux. Windows 2000 professional is working properly but all my important softwares are on 98 and I must desperately bring it in
working condition. I also restored the registery using "scanreg/ restore" option from
the command prompt. I have tried to run 98 in safe mode also. Then I selected "step by step confirmation" method to boot the system. But nothing seems to be working. Can anyone help me with this. This is urgent for me.
Thank you. Any details u want, I will give u. I have worked for past 3  to 4 years
on windows 98. Never faced such a problem. May be this is a virus that the antivirus cannot detect. But can u tell me the method by which a problem like this can be isolated or determined.
