I get no error messages.
I get blank screens with little box where picture should be or nothing.
I've tried several times to install shockwave and flashplayer from macromedia.com. it does nothing but start and then stops half way.
I followed a suggestion sheet from microsoft help tech and discovered dll file missing.
I haven't heard any more from the help group so thought of EE and knew I'd get A+ results here.
Thanks so much for all the input so far.
I'm downloading pcdoctor and bugdoctor from Blue Zee but haven't run tests as yet.
To
Lee Tutor.. is the chemsoc.org a way around the missing dll file?

>> NPSWF32.dll.

But this dll file is the Flash Player plug in for Netscape browser, so if u have not installed Flash yet, why it is telling u that this file is missing ??

:-?

I didn't think SFC would allow you to get the missing npswf32.dll file since it is not a Windows file, and also you said you do not have a Win98 CD.  So I figured you might be able to download the file from the internet.  The page I gave you has a link for downloading the file...

To Lee Tutor:
Thanks... I went there and got the download; however that isn't the only problem file.
I did the sfc check and discovered numerous changes and missing files.  I had purchased the PcbugDoc and it had fun substituting old dll files for the new ones. Boy am I sorry I did that.
Talk about a B  Zar  mess... I still have the little box on a blue screen in places where there should be pictures and some animation still doesn't work.
If I could just get my hands on a Win98SE disk I could get rid of all the problems using your suggestion and replacing the missing and altered files with that..... BUT I don't have one and don't know what to do now.  I'm almost out of money too... I can only spend so much on trying to fix this at a time.  So, got any more suggestions?
I'm open.  How do I get the missing and altered files back?I went through them all and wrote them down. noting the times and dates they were altered or deleted, so at the very least,  I do have that information.
I'm even willing to up the points another 200 if it will help.
Thanks for your help so far.  I DO appreciate it.

Do you by any chance have the Windows install CD files on your hard drive?  A common place to have them is c:\Windows\Options\Cabs.  Also c:\Windows\Install. Do a search for *.cab to see if they are in some other folder if you don't have them there.  If you find files with names like Win98_nn.cab, where nn is a two digit number, then those are the "cabinet" files that hold the Windows 98 installation files in compressed form.  You should then be able to direct SFC to that as the source for replaced any damaged/missing files.  Or perhaps you have a friend you can borrow a Win98 installation CD from.

To Lee Tutor:
I'll try that and will also use the Windows98SE disk I have from downloading and see if it gets any of the many files that got messed up (these are the files that are in need since bug doctor: fp4autl.dll,  ragent.dll,  msdaprst.dll,  smdapml.dll,  msaddndr.dll,   qttask.exe,  msconf.dll,  mfcc42.dll,  wmp.dll,  comdlg32.ocx,  qtplugin.ocx,  quicktimecheck.ocx,   xmsconf.ocx,   mscomct1.ocx,  msflxgrd.ocx,  msisys.vxd,  dcapuxd.vxd,  msh261.drv,  msh263.drv,  vip386,  [ flash.ocx, getflash.exe,  1m32.dll,  quitremote.exe,  unwise.exe,  download.exe,  swflash.ocx,  download.dll,  download.exe ]  these are all files that have been deleted mysteriously;  the others are either missing, have been replaced by older files or possibly corrupted).  If I can at least get back to only the one problem it will be a help.  LOL
Thanks for the input; will let you know how it turns out.
To Gonzal13:
I never thought of going to ebay for a copy.  I've not had to until recently.  I downloaded a copy of WIN98SE from the Internet, but I don't know if it is a complete copy or just a partial; I'll soon find out.  Thanks for the suggestion.  If all else fails I can try that.

To those who tried to assist me I want to thank you so much for trying; however,
it would appear my PC has finally bitten the big one, because it won't do anything anymore.
I saught assist from my server and has only complicated the problem further.
I am setting it aside until I have the patience to confront the problem again.
So good people I want to split the points I offerred.  100 points to SheharyaarSaahil for her contribution, and
400 points to Lee Tutor ( I haven't been able to try the last suggestion-------yet!)
Thank you both.  Be blessed in all you do.
