The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

internet explorer causes stall of OS

Asked by hawgpig in Windows 98 Operating System

Tags: stall, internet

Ok this is odd... wondering if anyone has run into this problem before...
I have an old windows 98 system.
It is a PII 300 MHz
I have removed the drive and scanned for viruses, spy ware the like..
done a hijack this.. got rid of everything that was even questionable..
I have done a msconfig and started the system with selective start up and NOTHING checked.

Hrere is what happens....
WHen I start up the system... everthing works just fine...
THEN I run Internet explorer... It starts up fast and I can surf the internet, I can run other programs while the IE window is up they start and run just fine....
As soon as I close the IE window... the system locks up for about 1 to 2 minutes...
Anything I click on will not open no programs will run nothing..
Then all of a sudden everything I have clicked on will open after about 1 or 2 minutes...
The only progam that seems to cause this is internet explorer...

I should mention that MSN is also installed If I go to the internet through MSN... This problem does not occur...
only when I use IE.

I have tried a repair of IE... no help...

Anyone have any Ideas..???
