The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

do i have graphics problems, lack of processing power, driver problems, hardware ? or is this pc ready to blow?

Asked by ecedwards in Windows 98 Operating System

i have an hp pavilion 6683...533 processor...191 sd ram...celeron 2...10 gigs of hard drive, 87% free space...on earthlink broadband...have had this one for 5 plus years, used daily, and leave it on most/all day...i am a cleaner and maintainer so if there is a problem in this area, i am unaware...recently, the desktop items and web pages will have a light blue halo effect in places such as the taskbar, icons, elements of web pages, and such...the scrollbar will run in and out of transparent light  blue as i scroll...the background colors of  web pages may change shades of color...a few minutes after bootup, the web pages seem to bulge and return to size...this usually settles down later...when i print labels at usps, some letters will be blue when all should be black...when i bootup i have 88% system resources...when i load tdwaterhouse stock console with streaming quotes, resources plunge to 53%...if i go to advfn website to view streaming live charts, we go down to 48%...another window or 2 goes to 35 to 40 % ... at this point, the pc may freeze or continue for a while until resources go to 30%...advfn seems to cause more problems with much less drain on resources...also, if i open 3 or 4 web windows, parts of all web site windows may show up on desktop and/or the desktop icons...i have ie6.0 and mozilla foxfire1.5 ...open 2 browsers at the same time and may or may not cause any greater problems...i have reinstalled ie6.0...updated windows and foxfire...reinstalled java/updated as it is needed for the streaming graphics...tried a different  updated graphics driver from intel and had to go back to the original driver...when the desktop view is broken up, i can minimize and restore or scroll bar up and down to reassemble the desktop ...i do not mind buying another pc but would rather cure  and use this one for another 5 years :)  ...i am still not sure if resources has to do with processing power/abilities or what...i have read that more ram does not increase resources...thanks if you have lasted to the conclusion...thanks in advance also for any comments and help.
