You should try yhe UNOFFICIAL Windows98 Second Edition Service Pack 2.1a.

There are generic USB storage device drivers included there.

is it working ...?in your own experienced?

by: For-SoftPosted on 2006-06-05 at 23:19:04ID: 16839988

I used localized version of the service pack.

Do not install the whole service pack. There are some major changes there. Fortunately you can install just the General "USB 1.x Mass Storage Device" support option.

No, I did not tested the driver, yet. I came across this solution two days ago.

Not the UNOFFICIAL service pack but rather

http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43605

http://rapidshare.de/files/1217842/nusb22e.exe.html

as I have put in your other posting.  The Maxim Decimus stuff supports a lot of USB stuff.

Oh, yes.  The UNOFFICIAL service pack is good.

But it's for Windows 98 SE (Second Edition) ONLY!

I agree. It is not necesary to download the whole service pack, in order to use just some drivers from it.

Yet, it will be good to have the whole package in the pocket. Just in case it will be necesary.

And there is no general USB driver that works with all hardware.

There are some generic drivers, but they may not work with everything you plugin.

Examples:

And here you will find a huge list of specific drives:

Good luck,

Get the file here:

http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/drivers/nusb22e.exe

Tested it in Win98 with a no-brand USB flash drive and it worked afet unzipping to a folder and pointing the install wizard to that folder.

I believe that you just have to run it in Win98SE.
