win98se error loading POWRPROF.DLL on bootup

Asked by Benboben in Windows 98 Operating System

I recently installed a USB card reader product, which didnt exactly work as expected!.. this was on an old Win98se laptop, since the install the machine now puts up the following error messages on bootup:

1. (Before the network logon screen) Error loading POWRPROF.DLL one of the library files needed
to run this application cannot be found.

Then after this when the desktop is displayed
2. A required DLL USERENV.DLL was not found
3. RUNDLL .. Error loading POWRPROF.DLL one of the library files needed to run this application
cannot be found.

First i uninstalled the software, this made no difference.

Then I had a look in the C:\windows\system folder and the POWRPROF.DLL file was there, i renamed it and then restored the POWRPROF.DLL file from the windows system disc, but this has made no difference.

Any ideas? I hope someone out there can help.. many thanksStart Free Trial
