Question

Windows 98 on Dell D600

Asked by: gabeck

I'm trying to install Windows 98 on a Dell D600 notebook. The only problem I have is with the devices attached to the PCI bus. In my case I only need the audio driver.
I've been searching the Internet for days now, but nothing found yet.
Anybody with the same problem and, maybe, a solution?

There were never any Windows98 drivers released for this Realtek chipset (SIGMATEL STAC 9750 AC97) the earlierst version (A01) was for NT/ Win2000.

You might find a generic Realtek 97xx driver or 975x driver will work but it's going to be a bit hit & miss for this.

This is a generic Realtek 97xx driver for Win98SE:   ( XX LINK REMOVED AS DEAD XX)
If you grab the PCI device details it may help in locating a driver but most of the Realtek chipsets report themselves as 8086 Intel

Here's the same file at DriverGuide

This is the link to the A00 version of the driver posted above but it shows as Win 2000/XP on the Dell site

Why not put it back to standard and run 98 on a VM. Microsoft VirtualPC 2007 is free and very good. Only thing missing is 3D support.
