Question

How to resolve run-time error#430: Class does not support Automation or does not support expected interface?

Asked by: richtree

I install virtual windows 98 (vm98) inside VMware Workstation, use PCMover to move all application from a physical Windows 98 (ph98) to vm98. When I launched my application (myApp), it runs into the above error message and closes by itself. This question is related to the following question: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Virtualization/splitPoints.jsp?qid=24729872&aid=25357698
I have little knowledge of myApp due to long history reason. My goal is to make myApp run in vm98 so I can preserve myApp forever!
Q#1. What is the cause?
Q#2. How to find out what is missing? ph98 is still running but dying. So it is still possible to dig into the working machine if someone knows the direction.

That error is associated with a Microsoft Dynamics' Financial Reporting package.     If that's the program you moved, then it apparently didn't move correctly.    If the program you moved is something that simply uses the FRx capabilities, you may be able to resolve it by either (a) moving the FRx program as well;  or (b) simply copying the FRxLicSys.dll file to the virtual machine and registering the DLL.

Here's Microsoft's description of this error:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/966304

It's not financial report, not FRx either. It's a VB program accessing MS Access DB and MS SQL DB.
Any way to debug like a developer does?

Does the original system have the FRxLicSys.dll file installed?    [Search the entire C: drive, although it's most likely in Windows\System ]

Also, was Access installed on the old system -- and if so did you move it?

After installing Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8, it does not have the same error any more. But the application is not doing the job - not processing the batch.

Old system has:
Ms visual studio 6.0
Pervasive software odbc
Visual components: Formula One 5
Access 95
Access 97
Btrieve technologies database

New system vm has:
Ms visual studio 6.0
Pervasive software odbc missing, but not sure if needed.
Visual components
Access 97
Btrieve technologies database

Not sure what is needed for myApp.

I'd simply move everything (with PC Mover) and see if that resolves it.

Clearly there's some component that is missing.

Yes, I let PCMover to move 'everything'. Maybe need to un/register some file?
