Japanese characters in MS-Word doc created on Win 98 not displaying correctly in Win XP / MS-Word 2003

Hi,

I have some MS-Word files that were created on Windows 98 PC (likely to have been created using MS-Word 97 or 2000)  that contain Japanese characters.

I'm now trying to load these on a Win XP PC running MS-Word 2003 but instead of Japanese characters displaying I'm seeing "’r’b’N’J’’0@".

Japanese fonts/etc. are all installed & other MS-Word docs load without a problem....

Has anyone come across this before & can suggest a resolution??
