Question

Bad DirectSound Driver

Asked by: superquestions

When I try to listen to music on my computer, I get a "Bad DirectSound Driver" and I can't listen to anything. When I go to System at the Control Pannel, it says the controllers of sound which are "C-Media PCI Audio Legacy Device" and "CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device" are working (but as I said before they are not). How do I fix my crazy computer?

Boot to Safe Mode, and remove the drivers.   Reboot and let windows reinstall them. Make sure you have the drivers ready.

Q.
Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper driver or select another
device in configuration. Error code:88780078 | 8878000A | 88780032 |
ect...

A.
First check that the sound card is proper places into the machine even
if it looks that way. Take it out and firmly place it back into place
(Do note if this break warranty then I would recommend going to the
place and having them fix it for you). If you don't see anything wrong
with the cabling then follow the second step.

Check the cabling that goes to the speakers and make sure that you
didn't get a mess in there through tieing it up on accident or smashed
by like furniture or such (Do note you can place the speakers anywhere
in your house but I would perfer them being place one on each side of
the monitor with a sub on the ground or below the sound from the
speakers). If you don't see anything wrong with the cabling then follow
the third step.

First off reboot the computer then go into "safe Mode". Then
right-click on "My Computer" and select "properties". From here select
"Hardware" then "Device Manager". Go down till it say "Sound, video and
game controllers" and open it up. "Uninstall" everything in there (Do
note this will remove all purposes to play music from here forth till
you get the correct version or a updated file in place). Save the
current configuration and exit. Restarting this time into normal mode,
once in let the computer think about it for a moment or two and you
should then recieve your files (Do note you need your current cd rom in
the drive to recieve them, either the windows cd rom or the
manufactures of the sound hardware cd rom). Now you you should recieve
music to your speakers and can talk through your microphone if you have
one. If you don't see anything wrong with the cabling then follow the
fourth step.

(Do note if you go this far with the same problem I would suggest
taking the computer to a person with the know-how to fix the problem
(This is how-to fix computer through deleting the and reinstalling them
)) Reinstall windows but do not delete everything in windows (Do note
you should recieve a computer disk labled "Microsoft Windows 'whatever
version you have') with this it reinstalls windows but keeps everything
else in place note you should have it working if not then repeat the
process again and you should not come back to here else you should take
it into a person who know what they are doing.

I would like to say that I go into "safe Mode" because some people do
not have the option to uninstall stuff though their user, so if at all
log in as "Administrator" or whatever you called it (Do note everyone
should change their Administrator's name to something else to make it
50% harder for hackers to get in also have a password on it making it
99% impossible for hackers to get into your system (Do note if someone
wants to get into your system they could easily get into it through
keylogs or some other things that have the same properties as
keylogging)).

(Do note to all the old people of computer all you really need to do to
fix this problem is to manually find the proper hardware driver, it has
nothing to do with "DirectX". Depending of what you got and the current
operating system you can find them in minimal time necessary.

I have the same problem. But it just doesn't help, what you've written. The drivers I install won't help either.
