Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Can I Fix Registry After Windows ME fully boots vs booting to DOS

As Windows ME comes up it tells me early in the boot process " Couldn't process registry. To fix, enter "scanreg /fix" as the registry needs more than available "conventional" memory. (A registry problem as the PC has 256 MB RAM). My question is can I enter "scanreg /fix" in the Run window available by selecting the Windows ME Start Button in the lower left screen and then selecting Run. Or will this command only fix (or be likely) to fix the registry problem if I boot to DOS from a Boot floppy or Startup Windows ME CD and enter the above command at that point before Windows has fully come up?
