space problem in windows nt workstation

hai friends

i have windows nt workstation on my laptop. c drive is 3gb and d drive is 3gb

when i go to c drive i select all file and check the properties the used space it shows 1.2gb where as when i right on just c drive it was showing used space 2.1gb i don't understand what's wrong?

what is difference in showing space between select all files and just cdrive?

how recover my unsed space if it is possible. and also some time my system is hanging also. when i open the ie explorer.

please provide me step by step intructions.
