The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

NT Server kaput?! c000021a Fatal Stop 0x00000080

Asked by logike30 in Windows NT Operating System

At my workplace we have an old Dell Poweredge 2400 Server with Windows NT SP6 on it. It had come down with a seriously noisy fan condition so I attempted to fix it without replacing the fan. After taking the fan out and blowing the crud out of it I put it in and rebooted. It's important for you to know that I am not a professional with NT servers. I can make my way around but I am no where near an admin... WIth that said, the computer boots up, hits the backround color of the desktop but no Win NT Server logo and jumps directly to the blue screen of death.

The message is something like Stop: c000021a Fatal Error and says that the windows login process has terminated unexpectadly.
gives an address of 0x00000080 (0x00000000 , 0x00000000). Then is says "Beginning dump of physical memory to disk" and proceeds to dump the memory while counting to 99 and reboots. This loops around and around.

I have read other issues like this and one points out the possibility of repairing the installation. I tried to do that with the NT CD but it says it cannot find the Hard Drives. So I used the Dell utililty embedded in the system to check for errors. Everything passed fine and the hard drives went through a surface scan with no problems. I checked if they were seated in correctly and they were, lights were on on the front of each of the 2 drives.

I don't think that removing the fan and putting it back in would cause a problem like this. This system hasn't been rebooted in a long time. Could this have been a problem that occured a long time ago but only now shows up once I rebooted the machine?
