NT4 BDC odd problem

Hi, something odd. I've tice now built a BDC for our NT4 domain. The build goes OK, it synchronises with the PDC etc but, it allows me to logon using the local SAM but it can't find the domain. If i run up server manager, user manager etc it says can't find the doamin and that domain wide functions are unavailable?
Any ideas?
