Why are ftp transfers all of a sudden hanging on my NT 4.0 server?

We have an NT 4.0 server that has some batch file scripts that go out and ftp down  tif files throughout the day. All of a sudden the job will start , connect, transfer 1 or 2 files and hang. I've run the script on other computers on the network and the transfer is fine. IThe NT box is pretty clean, not much else running. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
