The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Dial-Up Networking DIED

Asked by Mirko in Windows NT Setup

Tags: deinstalled, dial, error, up

Hi guys,

I am using Windows NT SP5 Dial-Up-Networking to connect via a ISDN phone-line to a PPP server. Well, more correctly spoken I used to...
Until a few days ago, everything went ok. I think that I then installed some application (which has nothing todo with Networking, Web, etc) and from this point on, the remote server hangs up each time, I try to connect to the net. (Verifying username/password......)

The error message goes like this: "This error should not happen. Reboot and try again" ;-)

I used SP3 at this time. My first thought was: Deinstall all dial-up-networking stuff and all networking stuff, reinstall it. But it was no use. I then upgraded to SP5 and hoped the SP-Installation would "kill" some corrupted DLLs or something, but it did not help.

I then made a complete virus scan with the latest virus scanners: No use.

The problem is DEFINITIVLY not on the server side, because I am currently using my Win98 with the SAME ACCOUNT on the same PPP server and it works fine.

So: Something must have corrupted some files or some registry settings or some other settings which are not updated when a new SP is installed or when the complete Dial-Up-Networking support is deinstalled and then reinstalled...

Does anyone know the internal registry settings or other "internal" things todo so that I can recover?
I do NOT want to reinstall NT...

Desperately yours
  Mirko
