dou you have a vaild key code?

by: MshinePosted on 2007-02-18 at 13:57:49ID: 18559898

There are ways of handling this, but I might respectfully advise you
to look elsewhere. You will not find advice from Members of EE on
how to crack or bypass pirated software's controls.

Sorry.. Try Google

you are all set you should be able to connect to the internet to activate the windows XP, near you clock on the right hand side do you see a bunch what look like some keys and do you get messages down near the clock ?

by: Ryan_RPosted on 2007-02-18 at 14:10:54ID: 18559942

once the Get Genuine Windows banner appears you cannot remove it short of reinstalling xp (maybe a repair will also do it since it removes all windows updates - dunno)
currently the only way to avoid getting it is to turn off auto updates and choose for yourself which ones to get. although the only thing that banner does is stop you from getting more updates anyway.
If you lost genuine cd's - then you are supposed to ring up Microsoft and see if they can send you any replacements. They will most likely ask you for details about the serial (for the genuine disks) and for other info (which will be hard to produce if you have wiped it and installed a fake xp)

i think you can run a repair and then activate windows

i have thinking if it was a dell i could send you a burned cd or something , is it new  can you contact hp to get a replacment cd of maybe find one on ebay or borrow one?

by: sprucasPosted on 2007-02-18 at 14:19:49ID: 18559985

you should be able to get a hp restore/system cd from somewhere which has the windows oem o/s on it - then you should be able to use your oem key - and you won't have anymore hassles with genuine requirements

by: sprucasPosted on 2007-02-18 at 14:20:10ID: 18559990

what version hp laptop do you have??

by: brikeyesPosted on 2007-02-18 at 17:07:23ID: 18560497

wrong: the user had a valid key code that came with the product, asking for replacemt media is not a violation

by: MshinePosted on 2007-02-18 at 17:43:12ID: 18560572

brikeyes,
He was not asking for replacement media, he was requesting how to deactivate
the window genuine notification that pops up on illegitimate copies of windows
installations. That is the point of the moderator.

With that said, the adivce to contact the manufacturer for replacement or restore
disk is a GOOD suggestion and appropriate advice. It is really the only advice that
can be given realistically on this website.

There are ways of dealing with this issue, and you can still receive security updates,
but you will not receive PRODUCT upgrades. You just will NOT find the answers here!

Contact the laptop manufacturer...

by: ontljoshiPosted on 2007-02-22 at 03:13:15ID: 18586440

Dear Netminder,

i am not interested in vaiolating any ones rights....but as my laptop is very old 3 to 4 years and manufacturer warrenty has finished on that....so they are able to provide any support on that....it was limited edition and their support was also limited...now my question is just to ignore this flag...for time

by: turkey2112Posted on 2007-02-22 at 03:41:33ID: 18586573

No, I'm saying contact the laptop manufacturer and get the System Specifications and see if they have the CD Key on file. The CD Key should actually be on the bottom of the laptop.

by: Ryan_RPosted on 2007-02-22 at 03:50:19ID: 18586611

You're asking how to ignore the flag?
your question is the answer - just keep on ignoring it - you can't make it go away (unless you buy another license) or reinstall windows. there's nothing else you can do really.
I've never heard of xp locking the user out after xx days after getting the WGA flag. Has anyone heard differently?

by: turkey2112Posted on 2007-02-22 at 12:29:32ID: 18591157

As a matter of fact, unless you purchase another license to the copy (as Ryan R said), there is no way to simply "ignore" it. The Genuine Flag is not neccisarly a part of your computer, but a part of Microsoft's Servers which checks your computer for authenticy.
