Wierd Problem With HD

Ok here's the situaiton.
@ 8:30 pm last night, was checking E-mail. It wouldn't work.
So rebooted. Computer would not boot back up. says Invalid Sytem disk.
Hooked drive up externaly to check it and the file system has been completly
changed. This is an 80 GB IDE Seagate HD. With Win 98.
Another thing is that the folders that were made say 225 GB, 350 GB, 160 GB,
None of the content names in the files a readable (ΦΦΦ≤≤≤ΦΦ.Φ±±)
Has anyone seen or heard of this problem.
