We have a number of terminal servers a mixture of Windows 2000 and 2003. We have a strange problem of our windows 2000 sp4 terminal servers. If a user gets disconnected through either clicking on the X or comms dropping, the disconnected session gets dropped in under a minute.
I have checked all of the idle time/disconnected actions and they all are set so the session should stay disconnected and never be dropped, this is so users can reconnect to their sessions. All of the other terminal servers have the same settings and their sessions stay disconnected until manually disconected.

Have you set the RDP-Tcp Properties to Override user settings? To force this behaviour you should set it in Term Serv Configuration, RDP-Tcp, Properties, Sessions tab, Check Override user settings, select Disconnect from session.
If this has been done, I believe there is a registry change that can be made so the it will never end the session on a disconnect. I'll try to dig that up.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
1. Use Registry Editor to add a DWORD value, KeepAliveEnable, with a positive numeric value of 1 (which represents Enable) to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
2. Open Terminal Services Configuration in Administrative Tools, double-click RDP-Tcp in the Connections folder, and then click the Sessions tab.
3. Click to select Override user settings and make sure that Disconnect from session is selected and then click OK.
