Browse All TopicsWhen right clicking on any file or folder in Windows Explorer I get an error box that says "Registry Access Denied". I click OK and the right click context menu comes up like it should have in the first place and everything works normally like renaming or deleting a file or folder.
I am the administrator. Running XP SP3. I have tried System Restore to no avail.
I have found solutions by Googling the words in the title above, but have only found solutions that have me editing registry entries that I don't have on this system.
Thanks.

Have you checked out shell extension view?
You might want to look at this thread for possibilities:

Sounds like you have context menu problems of non-microsoft context menu handlers. Shellextview will display these in a GUI shell.
Steelers4life: permissions are correct
djpazza: no malware found
ChiefIT: I used ShellExView and found that a recent installation of ZipX software was the culprit. I have uninstalled ZipX and everything is back to normal.
Thanks to the three of you. Special thanks to ChiefIT for showing me a part of Windows I would never have otherwise seen and solving my problem.
Glad to see it's working well.
You may run into other computers with a slow right click. Slow right click is usually indicative of problems with programs loading from a remote location that no longer exists (like Winzip, or in your case ZipX). Or, it is the result of a context menu handler. Slow right click is usually pretty sure sign of one of these two problems.
So, if you placed ZipX on a mapped network drive and installed it on many computers, you may see this problem on many computers.
