When looking through our active directory user, i noticed that some users have both a
"Pre-Windows 2000 Logon Name", as well as a a normal "User Logon Name"
obviously the pre-2000 name is formatted 'domain\username'
and the user login name is 'username@domain'
i was just wondering what kind of impact (if any) does this have on the user accounts or computers ?
the users have not reported any problems, and the domain has always been running like this.
we have machines from XP to W7, and our servers are from 2000 to 2008 R2.
thanks

No impact, you can use either to logon (at least to an AD aware client; you can't logon to an NT4 machine with the UPN).
Details are here:

The pre-2000 name is also known as the samaccountname
and the logon name that looks like an email address is known as the User Principle Name (UPN)
Users can use either to logon...no impact to the accounts.
Thanks
