Question

Trouble trying to remove apparent worm.

Greetings,

 We've been having some trouble getting rid of an apparent worm. I say apparent because we use Trend Micro OS 10.5 right now and it cannot detect it. We ran AVG and in one PC it said it was infected with a worm Win32/Worm MORTO.D. We have used information found on the internet to try to remove the threat but we haven't been able to find all files and registry entries described in manual removal instructions. Which has lead us to believe that it may not be MORTO.D.

What it does:
 
     It pops a window indicating that "hostname"\Administrator wants to connect to this machine.

     If nothing is done when the window shows up it will log off the user.

     Supposedly according to one of our technicians (I haven't seen this myself) if AVG detects the threat and tries to remove it it logs off the user.

The window shows up for other users on the PC.

So far we only have had 20 reports on this issue out of around 250 PCs.

Remote desktop is blocked by windows firewall.
