macros are like scripts people on TV use. just as the people on tv say what's on their script, a program does just what is stated on a macro. this is what makes them suitable for automating repetetive tasks. note that macros can vary from program to program. ms office programs, for example, give macros great power, while some other programs have macros that are simple "recordings" of keystrokes and mouseclicks.

Macros are like miniprograms to automate certain sequences. If you have something you do over and over, if you set up a macro, you can do the whole process simoly by running it.
