Amazingly King's Quest and a growing number of other games with a DOS base can be played in XP now with DOSBOX, fiddly to set up, slightly grainy graphics but works!

I did some troubleshooting of my own and found out that I could set the computer up to play something that was Windows 95, 98, or 2000 compatable , but it didn't give me the option of setting it back any further and still wouldn't run the game. Is there a way to corrrect this problem and run the old game?

The problem is that KQ is effectively a DOS game and Windows 3.11 was a DOS shell. XP no longer has the DOS infrastructure so lots of games are now effectively unsupported. However there is an ongoing project to run DOS & Windows 3.x software in XP.

It's free but it is only in version 0.6 so far so don't expect bells & whistles. It is pretty stable with King's Quest though & you can find a list of tested games on the site which might mean you can dust off some of your other CDs !!
Good luck, please post how you get on for other users.
