Opinion: Upgrade from 95 to NT?

I'm looking for an opinion here, but please support it with reasons why.

I'm looking at buying a new PC and I'm having trouble deciding if I should move to NT 4.0.

I've been using Win95 for almost two years and I'm very familiar with it. My favorite OS was DOS, I thought Win3.1 was unreliable. Win95 is OK, but it bothers me that my desktop is slower and more unstable today than it was 5 years ago.

I consider myself a power user (from an application standpoint), and yet my daily apps are only Netscape 4.0 browser and email, Lotus Organizer, and ocassionally MS-Word and Excel. There may be 20 other programs I use ocassionally. I am not networked.

Is the additional complexity of NT worth its benefits? I love a quality product, but for the most part I find quality lacking in MS software. I do realize that these products are very powerful and rich in features, but with this comes complexity. I only use Win95 because I need to to be compatible with current software.

Should I stay with Win95 because it is familiar, or should I move on to NT?
