Question

Can you Sysprep XP x64?

Asked by: jp10558

I know how to Sysprep XP Pro, but I cannot seem to find documentation on Sysprep and XP x64. The docs I've found are either for Server 2003 or XP x86 only...

Does anyone have links to info regarding Sysprep for XP x64, and whether you can use the same sysprep.inf file for this?

Hi zaldivar05,

Did you try the sysprp procedure for XP x86 in 64 bit? I do not think there are differences between them.

Regards,

MrHusy

For my current XP x86 syspreps I copy over the i386 folder from the CD to the Sysprep folder. I also add a driver folder if necessary for SATA etc. As I understand it, the same should work for XP x64.

         Hi jp10558
It is supposed to work because nothing can be different in procedure. By the way, why do you need to copy i386?

Regards

In the past, it never worked without the files, it would lock up needing drivers on the mini setup.

I tried the same method I've used in XP, that is I copied over my created sysprep folder which includes the sysprep executable and the inf file. Anyway, I got an error trying to run sysprep.exe:
The 32bit version of the OPK tools does not support WOW64. Please use the 64 bit version instead.

Any idea where I would get the 64 bit version of sysprep?

I assume it must be in your 64 Bit OS CD, located under Support\Tools

Regards

I found the files and ran a sysprep, imaged and restored to a different machine. My problem now is that it for some reason doesn't see the mouse and keyboard when it asks for PC name for instance.

Never mind, my fault - PS/2 keyboard worked.

by: rosencrantz256Posted on 2008-08-07 at 10:48:59ID: 22183431

I also get the error "The 32-bit version of the OPK tools does not support WOW64. Please use the 64-bit version of the OPK tools instead.". I do not think the solution on this page is accurate. I am unable to locate the 64-bit version of sysprep.

I suspect it is on the OEM preinstallation kit for XP 64, not on the OS CD itself as suggested by MrHusy above. However I have been unable to download this from anywhere.

The version on the OS CD under Support\Tools (inside of Deploy.Cab) must actually be the 32-bit version. It mentions nothing about 64-bit windows when running setupmgr to generate the INF file, and gives the same error above when sysprep is run.

Nevermind, I got it working. I had a bug in the script I was using. The deploy.cab does in fact appear to have the correct version of the files.
