Problem through DVI Port and Drivers/Resolutions

This last week, I bought a PS3. I wanted to use my LCD monitor as my video output for it, and I purchased an HDMI to DVI cable. My monitor, an Dell E198WFP 19" Widescreen Monitor, support DVI and VGA and is HDCP compliant so I knew I was going to be able to plug the PS3 into it with the cable. I thought the DVI-D or DVI-I would be an issue, but is not, and the cable and monitor have DVI-D. The problem I have is, I bought a KVM DVI 2 port video switcher, so I plugged in my computer in one port and the PS3 cable into it, which the last DVI cable went directly into my monitor. After I plugged the cable into my monitor, and tried to get reception from the computer, now my monitor no longer supports higher than 1024 X 768 resolution, everytime I plug in my computer through the DVI port (directly to the computer OR through the KVM switcher) it doesn't show up as E198WFP Digital, but now as Generic Non-PNP monitor. I tried plugging in the PS3 hdmi to dvi cable directly to the monitor as well and that did not work.

I tried forcing the computer to install drivers from the CD and the Dell support website for the monitor, for digital output, and it would install, but still have the same forced resolutions of highest 1024X768. Also, I tried changing the drivers that are already in Vista to be Generic PNP Monitor, and it does that fine but nothing changes. There is no issue with the VGA port. When I plug in the monitor into the computer through the VGA, it shows up as E198WFP Analog, and can support the highest resolution of widescreen 1440 X 900.

I'm concerned I may have messed something up with what flashes to the monitor or if the drivers in Windows are screwing things up, but even installing the proper drivers doesn't change anything any longer. I had been using this monitor just fine for half a year up until this incident this week.

Does anyone know anything I can do to fix this problem, I tried looking for a solution and read very little about something about protection and writing to the monitor, but that was only to force higher resolutions. I want to have this monitor working again correctly. I'm worried it could have something to do with the DVI port on my monitor now.
