The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Need to Sign a driver for W7

Asked by coral47 in Windows 64-bit, Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Windows 7

This continues a previous Question.

Trying to get a Adaptec asc 29160 SCSI card to work in W7 64, so he can keep using his 15000rpm drives without dropping a couple of hundred on another card.

Vista 64 does have the drivers included on the install disk, and has been loaded, and runs, on the SCSI drive.

W7 no longer supports this card, sooooo...

Trying the Upgrade (from V 64) method, gives the error that the SCSI drivers need to be updated, and the install quits.

Grabbing the drivers from the installed V 64, and putting them on an USB thumbdrive, W7 sees them, but gives the error that the drivers are not signed. The install will not go past that point. Have to Cancel out.
**the Install disk is good. Installs on a SATA and a PATA drive with no problem**

He's a MS Partner, and we are using the latest W7 disk that came in the mail the other day.
The drivers from the working V 64 install include the
.inf
.sys
.mod(?)

Are we missing a file?

Need to edit the .inf or .mod file?

Did we copy the wrong files? Doing a Search in Vista, got about 9 hits (on 3 different Paths).
But when we tryed to copy them all the the USB, it kept saying "file already exist. Overwrite?", so we ended up with just those three).

Using Vista Business 64 if it makes a difference. Should we try Ultimate?

Some people got this card to work in W7 Beta, but this latest release isn't going for it.
Any bright ideas?

I did see a Q the other day about signing a driver, but I didn't sub into it, and don't have any idea where it is now.  <sigh>
