Question

Install PHP and Apache on Windows 7 64 bit

Asked by: felangood

I've just purchased a new computer with Windows 7 64 bit and I need some information on how to install Apache and PHP.

With Win32 I followed David Powers Tutorial and also have used Wamp but it looks like those off-the-shelf options are not available for 64 bit systems.

OK.  I crossed my fingers, downloaded the Win32 version of Xampp and it seems to have installed Apache and MySQL successfully but I can't see PHP anywhere.

I'm attaching an image of the Xampp Control Panel.

hi
the php is not a serivce thats why you dont see it Apache and Mysql runs as a service the XAMPP apache is configured with php infact you can configure php with IIIS (Internet Information Service) web server or other servers as well let me know the outcome once you clicked on the url
if you have followed default installation the your web root directory is C:\xampp\htdocs if you put small script in this directory
call it test.php

<html>
 <head>
  <title>PHP Test</title>
 </head>
 <body>
 <?php echo '<p>Hello World</p>'; ?>
 </body>
</html>
open this url http://localhost/test.php

Yes.  That all looks very good.

Just one more thing.  My Dreamweaver sites can't find the php testing server.  I get the Object not found alert.

I installed Xampp at c:/Xampp and my Dw sites are located on my F drive.  Is that my problem?

well if you want the site to use server technology then everything must be inside the web root directory  so now you put your web application inside the C:\xampp\htdocs\yourappfoldername add this in the dreamweaver  do you know how to add the site in dreamweaver ?

Yes. I've got a few DW sites all using PHP.  It's just that it all installed so well a few years ago on my XP machine that I've never had to re-visit why it all works.

I'm going to bed now. I've been setting up the new computer for 20 hours straight so I'll get back to it with a sort of fresh brain tomorrow.

thanks matti.

Back again feeling a bit refreshed but not enough to see me through this week!

So .... if I wanted all of my sites to be on the F Drive (whiich is my data drive) instead of the C Drive, I should have installed Xampp on that drive eh?

Hey you should have used IIS (microsoft built in web server)!

It can be found in Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn on or off Windows Features > Internet Information Services

There are 64 bit ISAPI extensions for IIS (last i saw)

hi
you can change the directory to F in apache configuration
1 open the following folder
C:\xampp\apache\conf

2 open httpd.conf file
3 fiind the following
<Directory "C:/xampp/htdocs">
4 replace with the F drive and if there is a sub folder put that there too
5 restart apache

by: mattibuttPosted on 2009-11-08 at 05:19:40ID: 25770379

you dont need to install on F drive if you follow above instruction you will be fine
there is another thing you need to change this line as well follow the previous post steps and change both
<Directory "C:/xampp/htdocs">
DocumentRoot "C:/xampp/htdocs"
