problems with window 7 64 bit and VMware

I tried to convert (P2V) using both VMware WS 6.5.3 and 7 a Windows 7 (released version) 64 ultimate and it did not work. I tried both the built in and standalone (3.5, 4) converters, and nothing worked. The closest I came was to do a VHD using the MS tool, and attach it to a new VM, but it did not work either...any suggestions?
