The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Administrator Privileges on Restored Drives' Files

Asked by Potterjazz in Microsoft Operating Systems, Windows Vista, Windows 64-bit

Tags: MIcrosoft Vista 64-bit

I have upgraded my hardware to an Intel i5-based 64-bit system, and installed Microsoft Vista 64-bit. I created a partition for various files accessible on separate hard drives on my previous systems on my 1 TB SATA2 main drive and transferred all of the files from the drive where I stored my iTunes music files on the old to a partition on this new 1 TB drive. The files are recognized by iTunes on the new system, and play fine. However, I *cannot* alter these files in any way, and in particular, cannot modify the "Info" that applies to each. When I highlight the folder containing all these iTunes files, select "Properties" and then "Security" I see a list of users that include "SYSTEM", "Account Unknown....[long series of numbers and hyphens]", and "Users (Vista64\Users)". Of these three, the first two show Full Control, but the third only shows "Read & Execute" and "Read" checked. When I attempt to Edit the "Users (Vista64\Users)" user, everything is greyed out. I'm not interested in working out the arcana of permissions on this operating system (which was clearly designed on assumptions that almost *never* apply to a single-user operating system), and just want to know what steps to follow in regaining full access (read, write, execute) to all folders and files on this copy of my original music hard drive. All advice is appreciated.
