I found out last night windows update has a problem regarding 4 latest updates that fail. The way to get all 4 them installed is install sp1 first and restart then one by one with a resart in between as they fail every time if all the four updates are applied at once
They are:
Update for windows 7 for x64-based Systems (kb2515325)
Update for windows 7 for x64-based Systems (kb2522422)
Update for windows 7 for x64-based Systems (kb2492386)
Update for windows 7 for x64-based Systems (kb982018)
And the results:
Package KB2515325 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800705b4.
Package KB2522422 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800705b4.
Package KB2492386 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800705b4.
Package KB982018 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x800705b4.
The system log entries are:
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80071a90: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2515325).
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80071a90: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2522422).
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80071a90: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2492386).
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80071a90: Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB982018).
There is a correct sequence that needs to be followed. KB982018 must be installed last and I managed to get KB2522422 and KB2492386 installed without a restart whereas the other two KB2515325 and KB982018 did require a system reboot

My PC kept saying updates were available and shutdown to install the updates. I did this and it failed all the time. So last night I had a better go at the problem by doing an update when windows was running so I found out this problem is related to a Microsoft update error. It should do sp1 first and restart the PC after the 4 updates.
