Question
Windows 7 - change active partition when you can't log in
Hi guys.
I've got a PC with Windows 7 on it. There was a partition created during a previous instance of Windows, and it wouldn't let me access it with this newer version, so I went into Disk Management and "messed round" a bit.
I inadvertantly set the problematic partition to be active and have since rebooted the PC. Obviously, it's now trying to reboot from the partition that I was having problems with, and that's not a bootable partition. So, no boot, no windows, and no PC!
Can someone please give me some help with this. I really only (for now) need to get back to booting from the primary partition, and will solve the other problem at another juncture,#.

Boot to your Windows 7 install DVD and go into the Windows Recovery Environment (which is what corresponds to the old XP Recovery Console for Vista and Windows 7.) I believe you have to click on a link for Repair my computer to get to the Windows RE. Go to the Command Prompt section. Then you can use the List Partition command to see what partition you want to make active. Then use the Diskpart Active command to set the proper partition active. More info here:
